| | | a very brave long tailed tit group I just had a great experience. I was just filling up the peanut feeder in my garden and i looked up to see a group of 5 long tailed tits 10 inches from my head . They started chirping at me as if to say hurry up with our food. As soonas i left they crowded on to the feeder. They were so close and i thought they were shy birds . |

| | | Re: a very brave long tailed tit group They pass through our garden on a regular basis but never ever go near the feeders. They explore the buds of the trees like a synchronised team of acrobatic gardeners picking though every nook and cranny. Great sight - you are very lucky.

| | | Re: a very brave long tailed tit group I met a similar group today. I will try to explain the situation without being too offensive! I went for my usual mid week walk along the River Great Ouse and around Fen Drayton Lakes. I hadn't been walking all that long - nice redwing pics on the way - when I thought that I should make myself comfortable for the rst of the walk ahead - if you take my meaning. I found a secluded spot off the track; and was quietly alone with my thoughts. Suddenly, four long tailed tits appeared right before my eyes, clearly in a courting mode, and perched on a bramble about 6 feet away. There was no way that I could quickly sieze my camera and take a snap. It was great to observe them at such close quarters; but they zipped off before I could .....(need I say more). Apologies in advance to any sensitive WABers.

I had a similar experience with an Emperor dragonfly last year, gave me very close scrutiny until something else caught his eye!

| | | Re: a very brave long tailed tit group I think we perhaps underestimate the animals and birds as they sometimes seem as curious as us.
But as I always say needs must.

| | | Re: a very brave long tailed tit group I think it has something to do with the winter flocks, when they're always communicating which each other and have plenty of eyes to look out for danger, seems to make them a little more confident.
I've always thought of them as being like a troop of monkeys. |
