Egret on the Wansbeck?

Well today i saw my first Egret, though from quite a distance i was just wondering what species this was likely to be? I saw a previous post about a pair of Great White Egrets just up the road from me at Ashington. It bird itself appeared to be roosting on the river bank before it was disturbed by a dog walker.

I know these birds are getting more common but i'm still quite excited to have seen one in Northumberland

They're a great sight and increasingly so.

I was on your side of the country last year and was pretty sure I saw a GWE off the causeway to Holy Island, I took some poor pics and the jury's out for ever on that one. I would imagine it is more likely to be a Little Egret but there again, I didn't see it.

Have a look at the images in the Gallery, they might help with ID. I'm always surprised how fast they fly (normally) in comparison with herons.

Well after looking through the Gallery i'd say it was either a Little or a Cattle Egret, more than likely a Little. Thanks

And i've never visited Holy Island, i should have as i've lived near by for the last 18 years haha. Will have to visit!
