| | | A good day ended better Got picked up at 5.30,then quickly went and picked up another mate and we set off, we were first stopping at "Stanner rock" for the elusive plant called .."Early star of bethlehem",we reached said location and spent the next 1 1/2 hrs looking all over this rockface but to no avail, apparently it only really shows in sunlight, although we did see a largish mixed flock of redpolls& siskins.
We then carried on our journey towards the ludlow area where we spent a good few hours watching Goshawk, Raven and Buzzards one of our party also had a Red kitethese birds were comlimented by the usual woodland species.
On the way back home,we jointly decided to pop in at "Upton warren" great views of water rail and Reed buntings, the best views i have had of Cetti's warbler, then to finish the day off we saw the fabulous Bittern,in flight and on the deck to give superb scoped views.this ended a quite superb day. |

| | | Re: A good day ended better Hi Big Mart, shame about the early star of Bethlehem, but you sound as if you had a productive and fun day seeing all those magnificent birds. Here's hoping for sunshine on your next trip |

| | | Re: A good day ended better Apparently Early Star of Bethlehem rarely flowers in Britain, so maybe this is an 'off' year.
