| | | possible budgie escapee ?? Morning all
Could anyone identify this white bird seen in a Jersey garden yesterday, please?
Looks like an escaped budgie to me, but does anyone have a better idea?

| | | Re: possible budgie escapee ?? You could be right, Jersey has quite a mild climate so a Budgie could probably survive and live a long time free.

| | | Re: possible budgie escapee ?? I must admit my ignorance - I hadn't appreciated the difference between a budgie and a canary. And I claim an interest in birds? Shame on me !!!
Thank you for your input Farplace, Nightshade and Little Sparrow.
I'll await a verdict - if there is one.....................

| | | Re: possible budgie escapee ?? It's not very clear but the pic looks like a canary-type to me too: some sort of escaped cagebird anyway.
Canaries have finch-like bills, budgies have parrot-like bills.
There endeth my knowledge of cage birds!
Oh.... budgies can "talk" and canaries sing. I only know that 'cos I had *hangs head in shame* a couple of pet budgies when I was a child.

| | | Re: possible budgie escapee ?? Definately not a budgie as has been mentioned before it doesnt have a hookbill, but from that pic it doesnt quite look like a canary to me either (head and body a little too rounded (dumpy) and the bill looks a little too thick set and short. Looks like its got red eyes and **thinking aloud** Albino Bullfinch? I know an escaped canary is far more likely to be found but that pic doesnt look quite right, wish I could see it a little closer. |

| | | Re: possible budgie escapee ?? Its a finch of some sort - its neck and head is too much in proportion to be a bullfinch - my guess with that short yellow stubby bill would be Twite
