| | | Re: Moorhens nest made from takeaway cartons Chester is a bit of a tourist town and this is the result, they seem to have cut back on street cleaning due to council cutting down on services due to government cuts I think I will send this picture to the local rag. |

| | | Re: Moorhens nest made from takeaway cartons Clever Moorhen making sure the nest is buoyant in the event of flooding! BUT - a very sad reflection on the sorry state of our society today. Don't care, someone else will clear it up, just chuck it anywhere mentality. I know where I'd like to stuff all these discarded fast-food containers - I doubt they'd taste much different from the original contents anyway.
As a tourist town I'd have thought the local authority would be more fastidious about clearing up, not less: visitors aren't likey to return to somewhere that looks dirty and uncared for!

| | | Re: Moorhens nest made from takeaway cartons It looks to me like the nest has been invaded by the takeaway cartons rather than them being used as nesting material, possibly because the nest is on an eddy of the river.
At a 5-star golf country club/ spa just South of Luton this is what the guests have to look at:
I particularly like the traffic island with a mallard on it
Luckily the ducks and herons don't seem to mind the filth and detritus:

| | | Re: Moorhens nest made from takeaway cartons Sort of on the same subject- my other half had to have specialists in with bio-hazard suits when he had to have a building demolished before rebuild because some of the gulls that had nested on the rooftops had made their nests from rubbish- some of which was used hyperdermic needles (sharps).

| | | Re: Moorhens nest made from takeaway cartons You only have to look on Google at the Great Pacific Garbage Patch to realise the effect our consumer society is having on wildlife - truly awful! |
