| | | Magic moments Its a busy time of the year right now with the harvest, working well into the night. As the crops get cut and the fields opened up there is a lot more wildlife to be seen.
I stopped the tractor last night just before dark for a quick cup of coffee and sat watching the geese dropping into the barley stubble, such a spectacular sight as they wiffle in against the setting sun.
As I sat there a couple of hares trotted past just metres from the machine. They were shortly followed by a young fox then to top it all, a barn owl came and landed on the mirror arm of the tractor just a metre from my face.
I had my coffee cup to my mouth as he landed and I just froze not wanting to frighten him.
I sat there with the coffee cup to my mouth not moving for at least a minute watching this beautiful bird then he must have realised I was there because he turned and stared at me for what seemed like an age then took off and hunted close to the tractor for a while.

| | | Re: Magic moments Great stuff. I'm sure farming must have it's difficult times too but enviable moments like that must more than make up for it !
Still think your Marsh Harrier -vs- Rabbit is one of the best pics I've seen on here and another example of being in the right place at the right time. |

Situations such as this must make you job/life very rewarding. As you say a 'truly magic moment' but not many of us will ever experience it.
Hope you get some more magic moments!

| | | Re: Magic moments Sounds fantastic - I'm very envious!! But important to remember that we can all have our own magic moments, even if not as spectacular as the barnowl on the tractor; I had a wonderful moment yesterday evening as a robin hopped around my pond for a while eyeing me carefully, before deciding I was not a threat and then braving itself for a quick splash around at the edge of the pond, just a couple of feet from me. I was delighted - and thought to myself that little moments like that can really make your day. People like us who appreciate nature are truly blessed, I think. |
