| | | Re: Help with holiday bird There is absolutely no doubt that this is a juvenile Red-backed Shrike. The image is slightly over exposed and not quite sharp (which makes it seem paler than it actually is, and makes it difficult to see detail like the shape of the bill clearly), but the photo is good enough to allow similar shrike species to be eliminated.
Juvenile Red-backed Shrikes are very variable, but most do have pale bills. |

Never "concede defeat" just because you are out numbered (sometimes the lone voice is the one that's got it right).
It is a Red-backed Shrike, but that Id should only be accepted because of the visible features (eg. large head, bill shape, suggestion of a mask around the eye, scaly upperparts, pale edges to wing feathers, red-brown back and tail colouring etc).
I have taken the liberty of (crudely) applying some adjustments to the exposure and saturation to bring out what I would expect to be truer colours (I hope that you don't mind Dave): |

| | | Re: Help with holiday bird Ha I don't mind. RB Shrike was my thought looking at the image on the camera although Woodchat Shrike also looked similar. Having said that there were some other birds around I didn't get on camera that had a more rufous back like an adult RBS. Also not sure if the same bird but one had a noticeable reddish tail. Have some video I haven't looked at yet which might have some more images |
