Bird for Id

I managed to get a nice shot of this little fellow on 18th July. I'll hazard a Linnet. Probably wrong! Can anyone assist?

Thanks ChrisJB. When I look in my simple guide, after your help, it all fits. Greatly appreciated. My photos are greatly improved by the ready assistance given by folks on the forums. I really couldn't manage without it.
