Just as I was about to leave for work this morning I heard an unusual sound coming from an oak tree in a neighbour's garden. Location is Sandhurst, Berkshire.
I managed to record it with my phone and have uploaded it here: http://www.reticulatus.plus.com/audio/bird.mp3

Hi reticulatus, welcome to WAB. 
Not sure what this call is from...though, i've heard several Crows make a call similar to yours. Also watched a Rook blast out some astounding exotic calls, those that heard it thought they where listening to some sort of parrot. |

Sounds very odd indeed! Surely not from these shores? Or some expert mimicry by something?

Definitely not Little Owl, I'm very familiar with their calls, had them in an old oak tree near the garden for twenty years.
Also too deep a call for Quail..
I agree with John, sounds like an exotic, possibly a game bird.
Reminds me of something you'd hear at the zoo!

starling judging by the clicks any exotic aviary's or zoos nearby where it could have picked up the calls ? |

Can anyone identify it please? | I think it's a jay, I've heard them doing similarly exotic calls myself. Listen to this one mimicking a golden oriole - ignore the weird calls at the begining: Jay

Can't help much here but I'm glad you started this thread because I heard the same call a couple of weeks ago at a site in Staffordshire. Couldn't track down the source. I guess that lessens the chance of it being something unusual though | | | |
