| | | Raptor ID? Today I decided not to spend my lunch-break staring at my PC but get out for a walk. I was curious about a local LWT reserve, Boultham Mere. I didn't actually get there as it started raining, but on the approach, a large raptor flew lazily away from the area of the Mere. It had a long tail and looked like one of the Harriers. Unfortunately, as it was against a light sky, I couldn't make out any markings. Could someone shed any light (pun intended!) on what it may be from this somewhat sketchy description. Thanks in advance |

| | | Re: Raptor ID? Marsh Harrier seems likeliest, particularly at this time of year, but impossible to be 100% sure from that description. Is the habitat right for MH? I.e. marshland, reedbeds etc.

| | | Re: Raptor ID? Thanks folks for the replies. I didn't actually get as far as Boultham Mere but I am assuming it has reed beds etc so would be the correct habitat for Marsh Harrier. Apologies once again for the sketchy description. Very frustrating when out without binos! |
