| | | How to release hand raised house sparrow? I have hand reared a house sparrow, but now she is flying about the room a bit, so it must be time to release her soon. Do I let her out the window so she can come in and out as she pleases? We have cats. Or should I put a nesting box in a field and put her in there.
All the wildlife rehab places I have spoken to are not interested. (I live near Newcastle)
Any advice? Thanks. |

| | | Re: How to release hand raised house sparrow? Have you tried Blyth Wildlife Rescue? ~ Blyth Wildlife Rescue - Tel: 07910 643 122~ They are usually pretty good. Otherwise, i can help, but I am in Weardale, an hours' drive from Newcastle.
Your bird needs a week or so in an aviary, learning to be a wild sparrow, and strenthening its wings. You need to know it can feed itself adequately, and fly well before release. It also needs to be released in good weather, and in a morning.

| | | Re: How to release hand raised house sparrow? Just to let you know that your little sparrow is doing well here. She's eating lots and flying well. She needs to learn to feed herself, and get a little stronger at flying, but shes in perfect health and you have done a great job in rearing her.

| | | Re: How to release hand raised house sparrow? Thank you so much for taking Mildred. I would have been so sad if one of my cats had caught her. She is really missed, but I'm sure you will do a great job.
