| | | Hepl Injured Jay Can someone advise please about an injured young jay. It just flew into the window and is lying on it's side. Legs are moving well so assume it's a problem with it's wing.
Not a bird sanctuary for miles.
Edit sorry about the sp in title. Can't edit.

Edit sorry about the sp in title. Can't edit. | It may just be a bit stunned. Best to leave it in a cardboard box in a quite place for an hour or so to see if it recovers first. |

| | | Re: Hepl Injured Jay Thanks T that's what I normaly do and in the majority of cases the birds recover.
However this one seems injured. We moved it to under a shrub for protection where it's been since I posted. It managed to get over onto it's back so it's still lively.
Since it's still alive it's been put into the recovery box where I'll leave it until someone comes up with an idea.
Here the daft thing is. |

| | | Re: Hepl Injured Jay Thanks for that Farplace. My first thought was the vet when I realised it was injured but the trouble is I never know if transporting to the vets is stressful for the creature.
Anyway I just checked the jay again after it had been in the semi dark box for 2 hours and it tried to jump out so is obviously still perky.
I think it might still be the wing that's the problem so I rang our vet and she is seeing the bird this afternoon with a view to saving it if possible.
I'll report back later. |

| | | Re: Hepl Injured Jay I took it to the vet this afternoon. It was still lively and scratching about in the box.
The receptionist took the bird and was going to pass it on to the vet. Said she would report back later but didn't hear from them.
Will phone for a report in the morning. |

| | | Re: Hepl Injured Jay Rang the vets and was told that after a thorough check over nothing could be found wrong with the bird so they left it in the dark box for a further two hours.
They opened the box later and the jay flew away.
So that was good news.
Thanks all. |
