| | | Cheap feeders at Poundland Last week I purchased 6 feeders from my local Poundland shop.
I purchased 2 of each type. The first one can be either wall or window mounted as well and I would expect to pay £3.99 or £4.99 in a garden centre. You will notice my self-made insect house in the back ground made from unwanted ridge tiles.
I really am a cheap skate!

What caught my eye was your insect house, Terry. What a great idea. How about a thread describing folks' ideas like this. Conservation habitats made from materials designed for other purposes e.g. nest boxes from plastic containers, bat boxes from carpet tiles, bumblebee boxes from tennis balls.
Has your insect house been successful? |

Has your insect house been successful? | I only made it a week ago. A neighbour was about to throw away the ridge tiles and I immediately knew they would make an insect house.
To be quite honest, I have had a lot of building work being done at the house for months plus family illnesses. So I have not spent much time in the garden.
In any event, it is best waiting for the buiders to finish.
The 'insect house' will be moved to a south facing position and the ridge tiles will be seperated with a mixture of canes, rags, paper, soil, compost etc.
Another thing I am wanting to get on with is a water feature that I have constructed in such a manner that it can be taken apart quite easily and kept clean. It is made of old bread trays, an old back gate, seed trays, stones that my brother had over from some work he had had done. The plants and rocks came from my walk and travels. The 3 seed trays cost £1 each and the extravagant ornaments were a £1 ea at Poundland.
The wall to the left is being pebble dashed so the width needs to be altered a little. I hope to have a lion head type spout on the back wall. Amphibians will be able to get access from the right.
One of the builders described it as 'gummy' meaning it doesn't serve a purpose and not attractive!
Aesthetics bore me, wildlife fascinates me
I shall post pics when it is finished.

I got a little device ( simular to the one in the first pic) that screws onto a plastic bottle and has a hook that you make holes in the top of the bottle to hang it up...
Was about £3.00 mind the great tits seem to like it , i have filled it up with sunflower seeds , but it dont get much else.
But i know where ill be going next week poundland.
