Got some baby goldfinches but no markings on head do these come later?

Welcome to WAB Eileen. Yes the juveniles don't have the colourful faces these will develop later in the summer/early autumn. |

Only had goldfinches for the first time this year they are so cute. I bought some niger seed & sunflower hearts for them. problem is the niger seed has made a mess of my lawn |

welcome Eileen M .. I had a goldfinch and , in fact, over the last 2 days a greenfinch came down... both times the green went straight to the sunflower seeds...Do a little research to see what it goes for the most , and could save you getting unwanted food.

Yes, they do get their full colours after their first moult, these are called "Greypates"
