| | House Sparrow chick help.
I was wondering if anybody could give me advice on hand rearing a house sparrow chick. Four days ago, a chick fell out of it's nest, and was bald. The nest was in my roof, and I wasn't able to put it back. So I have been hand rearing it.
I have been feeding it on soaked fry cat food and suet mixed together and it seems to be doing okay. But when it becomes a fledgling, what do I feed it? How often? And also, can I return it to the wild?
Thanks.

I had to raise a sparrow a couple of weeks ago until I could get it to a wildlife rescue centre. You can get Orlux insect patee mixed with some water to make a paste which is high in protein and you can also feed lifefoods such as wax worms and mealworms. If the bird is still very young it's recommended to to make sure the mealworms are dead first by pinching the heads off with some tweezers.
Hope this helps. | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
