A memorable holiday, come and gone, in the Lakes. stayed in a B&B just below Latrigg...anyway wont bore you with the unessecaries.
The bad news first ...

No Eagle was spotted nor the Ospreys that breed near to where we stayed.

We looked and they were just not playing... oh well another year maybe..
The B&B we stayed had Tawny owls about a week or so before we got there, I found out. And photos were taken of there chicks they had...again bad news the fledged before we went..

so the good news...
I spotted 4 newbies which i was over the moon about

( see birds for the year thread) so that sort of made up for it...
A treecreeper was another highlight as well as a songthrush and a chaffinch,
( at 2 different times) were no more than 2 feet away from us

.
Red squirrels whilst you eat breakfast, they were so funny , or at least one was, who thought the best idea to get nuts out of the box was to get in it and stay put until he was full

( i didnt miss the greys at all).
it was nice to see and hear goldfinches and greenfinches, at least i know where they all are..

The landlady said she has redpolls so i couldnt take my eyes of the feeders, but no such joy until we went out one day i heard this bird call, I saw the bird, but needed a solid confirmation, and low and behold , I found out i was hearing and watching redpolls fly over our heads for a good 5 mins that one day.

The one thing i did notice was the lack of wood pigeons, compared to my garden ( down south ) when i put the feed out... there were little and far between... i admit i didnt miss them.
It wasnt a birding holiday , the wife would have killed me , but i tried and come up trumps, with a specacular number of buzzards along the motorway/s on the way home

now if you havent fallen asleep reading that ,try it with some hot chocolate..
