goldeneye in Summer?
Hi everyone, wondered if you can help me; I was at Bough Beech reservoir in Kent today and saw about 3 small-ish ducks with dull chocolate brown heads and grey bodies with white wing patches along the side. They look like female goldeneyes, there's absolutely nothing else that they look like, but I thought that in the south of the UK they only winter here..? Puzzled! Any ideas?

Occasionally birds do summer, so maybe they were Goldeneyes.

Two other possibilities maybe Pochard in eclipse plumage or if distant maybe Goosander red-heads ?

They were goldeneye shaped, the head was sort of steep, if you know what I mean, and the wing markings were identical. I'm so baffled!
