| | | Bird identification from song please I have tried everything to identify this bird which I cannot seem to see. In desperation, I hope someone can kindly help identify it from its song. The bird has been singing in the Little Thetford, Cambridgeshire area for a few months. The sound is distinctive although I have no way of describing it accurately. I could try - ch ch ch ch ch wheech ch - although more musical that that attempt would suggest. The song repeats every 10 seconds or so.
(Click on " its song" to download an ACC encoded MP4 file. The file was created using voice-memo on the iPhone and converted to ACC format using iTunes. The link will expire after one month) |

| | | Re: Bird identification from song please Wow! Fast reply, thank you.
In attempting to identify this bird, I have listened to lots of recordings, including from the RSPB. Following your reply, I listened again to their recording on their Chaffinch page. I cannot hear the same similarity as you. What am I doing wrong? |

| | | Re: Bird identification from song please They are the same or similar, slight variability from bird to bird and the pitch is slightly different on the RSPB site.

| | | Re: Bird identification from song please Ok. Fair enough. Thank you for the welcome and prompt responses. I had hoped this bird would have been a little more exotic than a chaffinch. We do see rarer species in our area, such as the Little Egret ( Egretta garzetta) and the corncrake ( Crex crex). Still, at least I can now sleep at nights knowing my bird has been identified.
Thank you once again. | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
