| | | American Robin I have just read this sent to me on a Wildlife Site I belong to..
Thought it might be of interest!
Birdwatchers flocked from all over the UK to see a rare American visitor last week. The American Robin is a bird which is rarely seen in the UK. It's similar in size to a song thrush and has a dark head and a red belly, hence the 'robin' name. Dean Eades was among those who waited patiently at Bingley, west Yorkshire to get this terrific shot.
It's thought the bird may have been in the UK for a few weeks. Its usual habitat is North America and it is known to migrate down to Guatemala. It's not often we're pleased to see American wildlife on the loose in the UK, but this has to be an exception. |

| | | Re: American Robin It's been there for a few weeks now. I saw it a couple of Saturdays ago (and also the Grimsby bird the other year).
The Bingley bird is a real cracker and a few of my mates have got some stunning images of it. Unfortunately it wasn't playing ball when i was there and i had to be content with good, but distant, views of the bird.
Here are some images of the bird in question. American Robin images American Robin -Bingley The UK Wildlife Images Website - American Robin Bingley Twitch
There was also a stunning Firecrest about three hundred yards away that was a very showy bird. The only problem was that it was constantly on the move and no one on that day could photograph it. Here's a few images of that bird. Firecrest

| | | Re: American Robin just for those who may not know, it is in fact a thrush, not a chat.
Turdu migratorius, clearly taking its name seriously!
Cheers

carol | Are you sure? They are very rare vagrants over here- not always annual, though occasionally 2 or 3 may turn up in a particular year.
Perhaps you can get a photo to confirm it is this species? |

| | | Re: American Robin I have to agree with aeshna5 although a possible Am Robin was spotted at Blashford Lakes, Hants on the 13th March. It was briefly seen but not confirmed.
What makes you so sure it was one?
