Hobby?

We saw two or three hobbies at Dungeness yesterday but when this bird rested on a post I wasn't sure if it was a hobby or not as I can't see its red legs?

Im pretty sure its a hobby. The only other possibility is a peregrine but that has a less defined white pacth on the face. The hobby has the black mostache, the narrow black mark running down from the eye which yours has.

Hobbys don't have red feet, to my knowledge anyway, more yellow to orangey yellow.

They have red trousers but not red legs , and i will go with a hobby as well.

Hobby for me too. I have seen a few hobbies lacking the red trousers and was told that these are 1 year old hobbies and that they are slightly browner on the back than the dark slate/blue of older birds

Agreed - Its a first year Hobby, they have buffy as opposed to the brighter red trousers of the full adults, quite a large proportion of the Hobbies seen can look like this....
