| | | Re: 2 more Cornish customers for ID I am afraid I don't. I do not own a fancy telescopic camera, I am mearly a poor student. I have some binoculars and a book though, if only my bins could take pictures!!!

| | | Re: 2 more Cornish customers for ID I also got a photo of a Linnet in Cornwall, Chris... we were there, near Newquay a couple of weeks ago- here he is:
I had to ask for id as well, since I didn't know what bird it was either; Gill provided it for me.
I love Cornwall, such an amazing place. |

I love Cornwall, such an amazing place. | If Johnnie is still with us, I would love to know what book he has, as neither of these 2 look anything like the ones in my brief RSPB & Oxford books.
I saw a flock of the linnets near Portreath last year http://www.pbase.com/crisscross/imag...0/original.jpg and 'next' , looking far more as illustrated in the older Oxford illustrated book which uses painted/reconstructed images to show characteristics better than modern photos often do.
Pleased to 'meet' Cornwall addicts; still have several hundred nef(raw) images to process from last weeks trip....but there seem to be very much fewer birds this year than I expect and no waders at all.

| | | Re: 2 more Cornish customers for ID Collins Bird Guide: Most complete guide to birds of Britain and Europe by; Mullarney, Svensson, Zetterstrom, Grant. One of the best books in my opinion. I also have a RSPB one for cross reference. I don't use them much anymore, I am a plant hunter nowadays

That's a great shot!
Now that you mention it, we didn't see any waders either- but I don't think we went to beaches where there would be many... plenty of surfers, though. |

Collin's guide just arrived and lots more pics, but smaller and ....er, so is this a Whitethroat too?
I forgot to class myself as a wader , but there wern't the usual horde on Towan beach which is my 'usually reliable source' Portscatho to Porthbeor Photo Gallery by Chris Morton at pbase.com

Listen out for their scratchy song, very distinctive. Check out the RSPB or xeno-canto Europe to listen to audio tracks on-line.
