I would start off by putting a few feeders dotted around your garden and the all essential bird bath. Birds need fresh water at all times of year and it helps if they don't have to fly too far to find it.
If you're a keen gardener, give over some of your garden to a wild flower area where insects will be attracted and then birds.
It's really all about patience when you've done what you can and the birds will come and others will follow.

| | | Re: Different species Some fruit and seeds on ground near water will always bring them in.You have to watch and wait. Also some cover from predators is needed.Maybe some roosting boxes or bird boxes will also attract their attention.

Everyone will have their own little contribution to add. My contribution is, to provide food and cover.

| | | Re: Different species Sunflower hearts, black sunflower seed and peanuts (in a metal mesh feeder) are popular here. The birds also need to be able to find cover not too far away if there are predators around. Water is also important - you don't need a fancy bird bath, plastic plant pot saucers with fresh water every day are fine. |

| | | Re: Different species Hello l33.
The two foods we find attract more birds than anything else are sunflower hearts (if you have squirrels in your garden you may need cages around the feeders) and live mealworms.
Robins will sell their souls for mealworms, but in our garden robins, great tits, blue tits, house sparrows, blackbirds, greater spotted woodpeckers, magpies, carrion crows ....... and the squirrels like mealworms.
