| | | Juvenile Green Woodpecker I collected a green juvenile woodpecker from my vets yesterday. I had never seen one before and now I can hold one and feed her mealworms. I feel so lucky. She is beautiful. I'm saying she although don't actually know her sex as there are too many feathers missing from her head to tell. |

I've only ever seen one close up once.

| | | Re: Juvenile Green Woodpecker Sadly she died this morning. She had been attacked by crows and the shock was too much. I discussed her with my vet this morning as I had to take a pigeon back for another injection. My vet said he might get to see a woodpecker, maybe once a year and has only ever seen one survive. Unlike pigeons which are around people all the time, woodpeckers are not a bird to mix with humans. She was so beautiful, bless her but her head was badly injured. I wish the people who saved her, could've got to her sooner but it's down to ifs and maybes. We did what we could but it doesn't always help knowing that. |

| | | Re: Juvenile Green Woodpecker So sorry to hear about the woodpecker. I have never cared for one here, but I have heard that they are highly stressful birds. Thanks for trying!

| | | Re: Juvenile Green Woodpecker My vets pass their wildlife on to me as they have no one to care for them. I will always try my hardest. I currently have 2 pigeons, a crow, 4 hedgehogs and 4 guinea pigs from my vets as well as all my other animals (27 in total). 3 of the hedgehogs should be leaving this week. The only wildlife I have ever turned down was an owl. My vet kept her at his house until he successfully released her. Farplace your sanctuary sounds very like my local one... FRIEND : Welcome It's always good to hear of other no kill sanctuaries. | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
