| | | Re: Warbler ID please I'm by no means certain, but it may be a juvenile Wood Warbler going by the yellow flash under the wing.
No doubt an expert will be along soon....

Robin | Yesterday I probably would've agreed with you, but after watching Springwatch last night and seeing how developed the Wood Warbler's eye stripe is before they fledge I can safely say it's not a Wood Warbler
I would've said Chiffchaff of Willow Warbler but I've not actually seen a Garden Warbler yet so won't say for definate

| | | Re: Warbler ID please I thought garden warbler too, its just more bulky in appearance and greyish.... rather than very fine billed and brownish or greenish.

Nige | Yes Nige, I saw that too and thought... this is not a Wood Warbler. Don't think it is a Garden Warbler either (that yellow flash under the wing worries me) but have no idea what it actually is... Maybe it is just a Chiffy or Willow Warbler.

| | | Re: Warbler ID please Juvenile Phylloscs show a clear supercilluim and pale face and throat and darker eyestripe by this age, which this bird lacks. They are also far more yellow on the underparts compared to this bird which is buff. They have more of a green/olive back and are not as bulky. The legs of this bird are far to thick for a Phyllosc. This bird certainly looks like a Sylvia to me. A garden warbler fits pretty well with the plumage. The single bit of yellow below the allula is odd, and the bird is not entirely typical, but this could be due to the photo quality, lighting, was it shot through a window etc. | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
