Is it a pheasant?
This bird was running alongside the tractor yesterday and each time I stopped it did. I managed to get a couple of pictures of it, but this was the best. I've seen plenty of pheasants about this week, but never seen one so dark in coloration. I think it's a pheasnt, if it isn't, I'm curious to know what it is.

Yes, it's a hen pheasant.

Yes it is a hen pheasant. They have a wide variation of colours. We've had 2 hens here recently, with a courting cock bird. One hen is dark like yours, the other very light, and the male is very light - almost slate grey on his back.
