Woodpecker - Explosion?
I took some snaps of a woodpecker. In two of them there appears to be an explosion of sawdust or something similar coming from the branch being "pecked"

This is the shot, I know its not a great photo, but there is clearly something visible.





Has anyone got an idea of what it is? or what is happening?

good chance it was looking for grubs or insects, rossy.

Some trees do 'explode' when hacked at. As rossy said the 'peck' is grub hunting.
