| | | what and why H all, new here and have questions, at the back of my caravan in Formby Merseyside, I have wooden flower pot holders with plastic flower pots in the bottom. between 05/05/11 and 05/06/11 a very small bird built a nest measuring about 70mm across and laid ten eggs which hatched, see my library pictures. the parents were very at tentative to the chicks tweeting to each other whenever I was close to the nest, but to my surprise when I looked in at the nest on the last day above they had all gone but what is more so had the NEST there were no signs of foul play on the ground no feathers no down or debris from the nest, and the flower pot was still in place. My questions are can you tell by the chicks the name of the birds and where has the nest gone, unfortunately I never got any photo`s of the adults they were too quick, but they were very small and had colored chests with white on

Welcome to the forum!
It sounds like your birds may be Wrens, and it could be that a fox or something has taken the chicks.

| | | Re: what and why Possibly a Wren?
They are quite small and tend to nest low to the gorund.
Shame about the nest |

| | | Re: what and why Definitely not a Wren its not a domed nest. I would guess a Blue or Coal Tit. Coal Tits are more likely to nest on or near the ground. If the nest has gone it has been predated by something, probably a Fox or maybe even a Badger.

| | | Re: what and why Up date, the planters and pots you can see on the rear fence are at least three feet off the ground and it is the one on the left which had the nest in , the ground below was clear of all vegitation and there was nothing to stand on at the time of the events, and there was a viscose sheet over the ground which as I stated was clear of any nest debris, plus how does an animal replace the pot which has to be tilted to get out, I have been on this site 6 years now and have never seen nor heard of a fox or badger being here, but there are cats, rooks, crows, pidgeons magpies, rabbits, and a bird of prey that I have seen from time to time.. thanks all |

| | | Re: what and why You have mastered the hard part which is to load them to the image library. When you write a post there is a box on the bottom right hand side which says library images. Click on that and then on the picture you want to include. If you are adding quite a few pictures to a post then make sure you add a space between pictures. Hope that makes sense for you. |
