| | | Egg Id
Found this egg whilst out walking yesterday, can anyone identify it for me?
It was found on the edge of a conifer plantation, with oak/beech woodland very close by. |

| | | Re: Egg Id Thanks, there are a lot of Jays around the area I found the egg and I found a Jay feather nearby.
You can't seem to be able to buy a book on birds eggs any more, which is a shame. |

| | | Re: Egg Id I bought one a year or so ago - 2nd hand from Amazon (a friend had a copy and it's out of print now, so 2nd hand was the only way).
Birds' Eggs and Nests (Concise Guides in Colour) by Jan Hanzak and M. Schierlova (Hardcover - Jun 1972)
32 used from £0.01
I've just had a look and there IS another one which is more recent and available new. It could well be better than the one I have - which is hand-drawn and dated now. I wish I could compare them !! British Birds' Eggs and Nests by John Chris Atkinson (Paperback - 14 Aug 2009)
Buy new: £15.71
6 new from £10.73 3 used from £11.15
Certainly I've been able to identify 3 eggs I've found this year from the book I have.

| | | Re: Egg Id I agree with Acipter, they are similar to Blackbird eggs, but the black scribbles on top suggest Jay.
