Help to recognise this bird please

Hi I've recently took up photography as a new hobby and birds have hit me with a interest. I will be buying a bird identifying book soon. but for know i'm trying to identify this one.

Hi Sibster,

I joined RSPB one of the gifts was a reference pocketbook. However, google is good for looking as well. I have an app on my iPhone that can help, I think all the other stores may have them too.

Good luck and keep on with the classification.

not entirely happy with common sand for this one, there's no white notch and the bill looks too long to me

1 & 3 look like Common Sand, 2 looks more like Green sand to me.

This forum helped me identify a green sandpiper so I agree it's a sandpiper but not sure which one.

the black bar on the tail in pic one also makes me uneasy for common sand.
