sparrows eating the plants

for some reason,this year, i have caught the house sparrows eating my livingstone daisy leaves..

does anyone know why all of a sudden this year they are eating the leaves of livingstone daisy plants, they dont touch anything else just this particular plant, i caught a bunch of them hopping around my pots that i just planted up and they've demolished all the livingstone daisy plants in every pot, and ive planted livingstone daisys every year for over 15 years, and never before do they eat them

very unusual as they have never done this before, at first i thought they might be getting little bugs off the leaf, but nope, i sat and watched them take pieces of plant and sit and eat it, they have literally nibbled every single leaf down to the stumps
