Early Birds

It was a very bright moonlight night last night and I was mildly suprised to hear the dawn chorus start up at 2:00AM, first a Robin then a Thrush,Wren,Blackbird,Tits,and more that I cannot put a bird to,is this very unusual?I am often up just after 4:00 AM and often beat the birds to it!

Probably the bright moonlight confused the birds - they are known to be confused by streetlights at times.

I used to work for a large hauliers and they had their yard floodlights on constantly throughout the night. Many a time you could hear both Robins and Blackbirds singing throughout the night, joined occasionally by a Song Thrush and a Dunnock.

We have a Robin with a timing problem round here at the moment, he sits under the sodium street lamp outside our house singing at all sorts of weird times, quite often at 1 or 2 in the morning, he probably spends half the daylight hours roosting.
