Yes that would be good Robert, just explain that even if it looks lost and alone that its parents will be watching it and it will be best left for them to take care of. Even if she cant see them , they will be around.

I agree, just telling her it died and that she should leave youngs birds where there are will be suffice I think. And an explanation of why they need to be left. Not just a straight out "You killed it"

Quite correct- she didn't kill the bird, and it probably would have died anyway. I'm sure she will now understand what she should do if she finds another chick.

Killing it implies there was intent, her intent was to rescue it, she thought it was in danger.

Telling her she killed it would be heartless and cruel, she's a sweet kid who just thought she was doing the right thing.
