| | | Urgent help needed, blue tit fledgling I posted this in another thread, but I need someone to give me some advise! I think personally think the little chap should go in a garden near the road he was found, I can't say which one he was from but might be able to hazard a guess.
OK, I need some help!
Last night I found a Blue tit chick, soaking wet and in the main road outside my house. After stopping the traffic and escorting it to the side it seemed very shocked and so I waited at a distance to see if a Mummy bird would come for it.
My knowledge of birds is pretty poor, but the poor little fella got attacked by a large black bird (not an actual black bird), and nothing came for it so we made it a little box up for the night and it has spent the night here in the warm and dry with us.
It was still in shock most of yesterday but has recovered well.
Now I need to know what to do?
Can I/Should I release it?
It hasn't eaten much, if I should not release it, how should I feed it?
It's chirping away and hopping around the box, seems desperate to get out now, but it would have died if I had left it yesterday so I just want your thoughts on the matter?
It looks closest in age to the picture below.
I forgot to say, I know you shouldn't take them in, but I phoned a vet who said I should being it in for now, sadly the little fella was right near a vets, but being a bank holiday nobody was in. Quote:

| | | Re: Urgent help needed, blue tit fledgling I already have looked before I posted, but have taken another read through, so thank you anyway.
The situation is a bit different to anything on there, being that I was told by our vet it would probably die if it wasn't sheltered for the night and allowed to get over the trauma of being in the main road.
Although last night was different, being that we had to take it in to protect it and allow it to recover, it's now better and chirping happily, so I think it's going to be safe to get it back out there.
I wanted to double check with our vet but I can't get hold of him this morning. |

| | | Re: Urgent help needed, blue tit fledgling It WILL need to be fed very soon. Is there any place close by where you can perhaps find some caterpillars?
Also, if you have the time, check through some of the older pages on WAB and i'm sure you'll find plenty of tips on how to feed the little guy. I would look for you myself but i don't have the time right now.
Good luck! |

| | | Re: Urgent help needed, blue tit fledgling Thanks again Scout. Under the vets advice we gave a little apple sauce (just apples boiled down to mush and cooled), it took a while but it did take a small amount from the handle of a tiny spoon.
Thankfully he is well out of shock, seems fairly happy and able to fly again, which were the reasons we were told not to leave it out yesterday.
But... here's what I posted in the other thread I asked in. Quote:
I took him back to the vets, who said he was doing much better than when I desribed him yesterday, he concured with advice from your site, the little fella (or lady) was released into a garden close to where he was discovered and now it's up to nature.
After 5 minutes of waiting it flew into a small bush and perched.
Thankfully the garden closest to where we found him was huge, really huge with big walls, it was owned by a little old lady with no cats (thankfully) and she was more than happy for it to be released there.
She had bird feeders and plenty of other birds there too, so fingers crossed if it was still in need of it's Mummy it will be able to find it.
Although I did get a direct answer I just wanted to thank the whole community here for such a great site and group of people, I love birds, they are my favourite creatures and I shall be staying in touch.
Peace, love and happy bird watching | Thanks again for your help, I hope I did the right thing, it's up to nature now. The little fella seemed in good spirits and happy enough when we backed away and left him in the garden. | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
