Last night I found a Blue tit chick, soaking wet and in the main road outside my house. After stopping the traffic and escorting it to the side it seemed very shocked and so I waited at a distance to see if a Mummy bird would come for it.
My knowledge of birds is pretty poor, but the poor little fella got attacked by a large black bird (not an actual black bird), and nothing came for it so we made it a little box up for the night and it has spent the night here in the warm and dry with us.
It was still in shock most of yesterday but has recovered well.
Now I need to know what to do?
Can I/Should I release it?
It hasn't eaten much, if I should not release it, how should I feed it?
It's chirping away and hopping around the box, seems desperate to get out now, but it would have died if I had left it yesterday so I just want your thoughts on the matter?
It looks closest in age to the picture below.
I forgot to say, I know you shouldn't take them in, but I phoned a vet who said I should being it in for now, sadly the little fella was right near a vets, but being a bank holiday nobody was in. Quote:

| | | Re: Bluem Tit Chick......Say Awwwwww! I took him back to the vets, who said he was doing much better than when I desribed him yesterday, he concured with advice from your site, the little fella (or lady) was released into a garden close to where he was discovered and now it's up to nature.
After 5 minutes of waiting it flew into a small bush and perched.
Thankfully the garden closest to where we found him was huge, really huge with big walls, it was owned by a little old lady with no cats (thankfully) and she was more than happy for it to be released there.
She had bird feeders and plenty of other birds there too, so fingers crossed if it was still in need of it's Mummy it will be able to find it.
Although I did get a direct answer I just wanted to thank the whole community here for such a great site and group of people, I love birds, they are my favourite creatures and I shall be staying in touch.
Peace, love and happy bird watching | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
