| | | Violent Blackbird!!!! I've been watching over the last couple of weeks a male blackbird that always nests in the same place in my garden each year. He has now raised 2 babies who appear to have now gone.
However, the male blackbird has become quite nasty to all other birds that appear on my bird table. He basically seems to sit in the tree watching and waiting and when something appears on the table he dive bombs them and frightens them off.
I have a number of wood pigeons that land at the bottom of the table for the left overs he even dive bombs those literally landing on their backs.
I've never seen this before but whilst I like Mr Blackbird I'm getting a bit annoyed at him for continually scaring the other birds away all the time.
Anyone got any ideas!!! |

| | | Re: Violent Blackbird!!!! I was watching a female blackbird collecting worms on the lawn all of a sudden two collared doves appeared the blackbird went for one of the doves the dove flew from the birdbath to the bird table the blackbird chased them off in a very aggressive way and the doves came back a while later and she chased them off again..
I have never seen this before either.. |

| | | Re: Violent Blackbird!!!! Yes they are very territorial at the moment, expending vast amounts of energy to keep a food supply. I wet the lawn down at the moment to keep a supply of worms going.

| | | Re: Violent Blackbird!!!! Thanks for the replies - its not as though there isn't enough food - I top up the table twice a day with loads of variety. We've had plenty of rain so the ground is full of worms as well.
It just amazes me how I can see him sitting in the tree waiting to attack - it's really odd!!! |

| | | Re: Violent Blackbird!!!! We had just cut the grass and the doves dont eat the grubs they were after the seeds that blackbird is not interested in. The blackbirds have got chicks in a nest I think as she is flying off with worms. |
