| | | Birds and Wasps I was a bit puzzled when some Blackbirds appeared to abandon their nest and was about to blame the local cats. This morning I discovered a wasps nest right under the blackbird nest, my question is would that scare the birds off? would the wasp sting Blackbirds?

| | | Re: Birds and Wasps I don't know for sure Annie - but I guess they might if the Blackbird sat on them enough! Ouch!

| | | Re: Birds and Wasps I had bluetits abandon a nest box after wasps moved in and started building their nest (bluetits were about a third of the way through building). I would think the wasps would sting anything that was too close to the nest, even birds. |

| | | Re: Birds and Wasps Apparently they are tree wasps, quite a few buzzed round me when I pruned a rose near them but didn't sting, they could be all show and no sting so to speak, perhaps the birds were shaking the bush around too much and got buzzed.
