| | | Please help..nest query I have a cctv camera set on a nest in my stables, have done this a few years running now watching various birds. I have a blackbird nest I am watching and the chicks have quite a few feathers and are lively. However I have noticed today only the dad feeding them and have now just come in from a night out and seen that mum isnt sitting on them...is this common for mum to sit elsewhere once they get to a certain age, or if nto will they survive with just dad feeding them?? |

| | | Re: Please help..nest query Yes this is normal blackbird behavior, the male takes over the care of the youngsters and mom goes off and starts building another nest. It is possible for them to have three nests a year in some cases. I'm afraid the survival rate for all the babies isn't very good so they invest in producing as many young per year as they can.

| | | Re: Please help..nest query Dad usually only takes over the sole feeding once they have left the nest, not when they are still in it, if they are still sitting in the nest then i'd be pretty sure they are too young for mom to have left already to start building another | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
