some people dont like magpies but I think they are great birds glad you didn't "let nature take its course" and you have given the birds the best possible start of its free life..
If for any reason it cant go back to the wild and they offer it to you, then think of an out door aviary with a possible other bird for company not like this would happen but you never know.
If you find out how the bird is then let us know wont you. |

Do you happen to know whether any studies have been done to establish whether releasing rescued common birds, (reared by humans and therefore deficient in many essential areas of development) into an established wild colony, is actually a good idea? |

Nothing natural about leaving wildlife to unnatural predators..
We would NOT have to interfere if the threat from cats wasn't there. |

I didn't mention cats.
I was talking about rescued birds and whether we should be releasing such fundamentally damaged individuals into the wild population.
And why we might be doing that, thinking it is a good idea. |

And why we might be doing that, thinking it is a good idea. | The OP rescued the bird as it was vulnerable and cats was the main predator..
I cant see how damaged the birds are that are released as they are rehabilitated by caring people who have been doing this for a long time.
What is your answer to this not release the birds into the wild after rehab and put it to sleep or not have rescue centres all together..
What are your views on this..
What are you getting at by your remarks.. |

What I am getting at is the assumption that because people care about animals, then that means they are automatically doing the right thing.
I believe that in very many cases nothing could be further from the truth.
Bottom line: Would you deliberately raise a Magpie, and then release it into the wild? Is this a good idea or not? | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
