| | | Blue tits Hi we have been lucky enough to have a nest of ten chicks, six have survived. Unfortunately today one flew the nest so we caught it and put it back in the nest. Now they have all left the nest except one. I believe it may be the one i caught and now feel it has been rejected. What shall i do now. I dont want to see it die. Help PLEASE I feel really bad! |

The one you caught could obviously fly so I doubt its the same one,if it is it will leave soon enough if its able.
Stand back, watch and have fun but don't get too attached, thats why they have so many unfortunately

Thanks for your advise. The last chick had left the nest next morning.

| | | Re: Blue tits Chicks can leave the nest over 1-3 days.
But you really should not be taking photos of the chicks in the box at the age they are in your 3rd and 4th pics. These chicks are very mature, and your disturbing them at this stage can cause them to 'explode' (leave the nest early, as they think they've been rumbled and they're at risk from a predator). Blue Tits can fly well when leaving the nest, so your finding a wobbly bird coming out early might well be due your disturbance causing it to leave a day or two earlier than it should. If they jump ship before they can fly well then they're obviously less likely to survive.
As a rule of thumb, when you can see a tail on them stop looking in the box. Your 2nd pic is about as old as you should be looking in - once they're older than that, then leave them alone. |

| | | Re: Blue tits Oh thanks for all your advise, thats great. I hadnt taken a photo for a week before they went and thankfully they all did fly when they left. They flew into the next door neighbours tree. They have been back to feed over the last few days so all good. Appreciate all the advise we can get. | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
