| | | Abandoned Fledglings Hi;
I read the sticky but we have an abandoned baby Great Tit in the garden, mum and dad have not been back and I'm sure it will sadly perish if we don't intervene.
We have had a bird box up for five years and this is the first time we have had anything nesting.
This morning all of a sudden four babies decided it was time to leave the nest, one two appear to be cutting about fine one was on the floor by our garage and could only flounder about but has now disappeared but the fourth is still sat more or less in the same spot where it first fell and although mum and dad at first seemed to attempt to find it, its not calling and they have moved on.
I have contacted a local lady who takes in wildlife but she is full, the second contact North Devon Animal Ambulance is not answering their phone and the next location os Cullompton which is about 40 miles!!
I'm located in Braunton North Devon and any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks. |

Good job we didn't intervene too soon its now 12:41 and one of the parents finally located the little fella. They have coaxed it further down the garden but have not fed it yet?
I'll keep you posted on the progress!! |

I'll keep you posted on the progress!! | i'm not an expert on fledglings so someone else here might have better advice but if the parents are still in the area and know where it is then i personally would just keep an eye on it for now, its possible they fed it while you had your eyes turned away
let us know how it goes we do worry about the little babys when they leave the nests |

| | Re: Abandoned Fledglings Well we left the little fella all day but when we got back at about 17:00 he was laying on his side having been blown over by the wind, he was very weak.
Anyway in a moment of passion my wife picked him up and took him inside. We put him in a little pouch and set about warming him up.
We gave him some water by using a cotton bud dipped in pre boiled water rubbed on the side of his beak and when he was a little more active and warm we managed to get him to eat. We used packet cat food on a pair of tweezers.
We fed him every hour until about 20:00 he really perked up was grabbing the food when offered and tweeting away.
We left him until morning but sadly he passed in the night, i'm guessing he was too cold? I'm sure he would have died if we had left him?
Poor little fella.
When I checked the nest after they had all flown I found another fledgling Great Tit that had not long since died in the nest. The pair had 5 chicks, 4 left the nest and at least one of the four died. |
