Thanks for the replies---i have a gut feeing that Yellowhammer numbers have seriously declined.

I've heard two this year and neither in Surrey. I really do have to work hard to find singing Yellowhammers in Surrey nowadays. In my youth I could walk down the road and hear them. Sadly no longer.
