| | | Bittern at Shapwick, near Glastonbury Hello,
Almost impossible to spot but impossible not to hear is the sound of a Bittern.
I have never heard this before but a visit to the Nature Reserve near Shapwick was where I heard my first Bittern.
I must admit when I was a kid I heard the sound on a BBC?? Bird soundtrack LP I had.
32 years later I finally heard a Bittern for real. Happy chap.
There has been 12 Hobbys seen at this site by one visitor remarks but I didn't see a single one; can't have it all I guess.

| | | Re: Bittern at Shapwick, near Glastonbury Hi jerry if you go too noahs hide at shapwick around midday you will see the hobbies and if you stay watching an hour or so you should see a bittern or two. I saw 3 bitterns fly out of reeds in about an hour or so last time i sat in the hide. The hobbies are sometimes way up high at the rear of the lake ,they look like swifts they are that high but usually some come down and hawk the surface of the lake.Great place shapwick and ham wall.

| | | Re: Bittern at Shapwick, near Glastonbury Great stuff. Thanks for that.
We went in to the first hide on the right side of the main path. There were 2 other further hides further along the main path so I guess it was these hides you were meaning.
Thanks again
