| | | Need a bird identified please Hi, i just signed up because i couldn't find what i need on the net, google being google.
A bird landed in our graden, and the best i can describe it as was a white peacock. It was about that size, and had yellow/orange lets quite thick. I grabbed my phone to get a picture but it walked away through a hedge and out of sight.
Any ideas? It was totally white.
Thank you very much.

| | | Re: Need a bird identified please If it looked like a white Peacock, maybe that's what it was? Could it have otherwise possibly a white Pheasant? |

| | | Re: Need a bird identified please I can't be sure, but i think it may have been too tall to be a pheasant as it did have long legs. If it were a white peacock, where could it have come from, and how would a peacock survive in the uk (food etc)? |

| | | Re: Need a bird identified please A white peacock would be quite distinct, if you search Google Images for 'white peacock' I'm sure you could tell us right away if it was or not.
If it wasn't, as aeshna5 said it may be a pheasant (they can be quite upright when on the move) or maybe a Partridge of some sort.

Even our chickens who I handle often, will struggle if they get the chance.
You might be able to throw something over it if you get close enough, a towel or blanket, and wrap it up quickly to stop it struggling. Try giving it some food - peanuts (unsalted), small pieces of bread, raisens/currants etc - just to try to win its confidence a bit and let you get closer.
Even better, if you have a shed or garage, lead a trail of food to tempt it inside, then shut the door behind it. |
