| | | Blue tit I had 2 blue tits nesting in my box and there was lots of activity over the last few weeks and last week chirping from the box, but yesterday I noticed at mum and dad are not around and there is no noise from the box. Do you think something scared the birds away or the chicks could have died?
If the box is no longer used after a few weeks, am I meant to clean it out or leave the nest in the box???
Missing my birds as loved watching them |

| | | Re: Blue tit welcome diane, possibility of one of the parents has been predated, the chicks have died due to the weather, another is the food supply, hard to know , but you could check inside the box, and you find they have all perished, it would be a good idea to clear it out , its sad but it happens and has been happening, if you read other threads on here the same happened to them. rossy. |

I will have a look and see inside the box. I was really excited to have chicks in the garden. |

| | | Re: Blue tit I do not think so as only heard activity in the nest for a week from chicks (are baby birds called chicks, lol), now nothing and no mum/dad flying in and out.
Will check nesting box at the weekend if still no activity.
Thank you for the reply |

| | | Re: Blue tit I had lots of activity over the past weeks by two blue tits in one of our nestboxes. The parent birds would bring many caterpillars and then fly off for more. About six days ago I noticed the parents would bring food and stand off away from the box. I assumed they were trying to encourage the youngsters out. Two days ago all activity stopped. I have now checked the box and found four dead chicks being devoured by maggots. The young were almost fully fledged. The box is east facing and receives no sun from midday onwards. The second box is empty and unused. All seemed well until about a week ago. | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
