There is a field and church yard out the back and goldfinches have been around all year. They are seen at he moment on the telephone wires. They have been on the lawn for seed. Also, when the dandelion heads have gone to seed then they hop up and bring the head down with their weight and eat all the seed.

| | | Re: Goldfinches are back! Goldfinches have just arrived in my garden. I'd never seen a goldfinch before (I come from the South East and we didn't get them there, I moved to East Yorkshire a couple of years ago) so I couldn't believe it when I saw a pair in the garden last week. It's only a tiny town garden. I'd always thought you had to be in the country to get goldfinches.
I've been trying to make the garden a bit more bird and wildlife friendly and because I was changing things I scared off all the starlings and sparrows that we used to get. Now they are slowly coming back. Plus I've gained a couple of wood pigeons, a pair of collared doves, and now a pair of goldfinches. My next goal is to tempt the blue tits that I see in the garden a few doors down to come over to ours. | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
