| | | carrion or hoody? I had an interesting experience a couple of days ago. We have several resident pairs of carrion crows on campus, just outside Brighton. The sun was very bright and I saw what looked for all the world like a grey crow, a hooded crow. It had what seemed to be the characteristic grey cowl, like a mad monk at midnight. Then as it moved it turned out to be a plain carrion crow. The angle of the sunlight had meant that it reflected white light to my eyes giving the appearance of the hood. It was intriguing to realise how closely the two spp are related.
