sorry no photo just as was at work on break.
two small birds obviously in some mating ritual, about the size of a sparrow.
mainly brown, but had a distinctive yelow "lightning strike" on the wing area when folded, male (i assume) tail feathers when displayed had black and white markings.
sorry not much to go on, a colleague said they were a finch, any ideas? |

| | | Re: Bird ID required Agree tail does point more towards Chaffinch, and their wing bar can be yellow as opposed to the usual white.
Other option would be Goldfinch as their tail feathers are black and white. However you said mainly brown. Unless you noticed the red head, it won't be these.
Siskin possible but odds against them in relation to the others.
