| | | Mayford nest boxes The chicks in Box 3 are now 8 days old.
Both parents are bringing in food, but the female is not too willing to let the male feed the chicks - so he pushes her out of the way! (Details on our website). |

| | | Re: Mayford nest boxes Great shots Elizabeth, how far apart are your boxes you have them nest every year what's your secret.
The tits use my box's for the winter to roost then never breed in them I have moved one box and still no luck.. |

| | | Re: Mayford nest boxes Hi Kayleigh
There's a plan here of our garden, showing where the three boxes are: http://webcam.biggonline.co.uk:8081/plans/index.htm
They are all out of sight of each other, as the one on the side wall of the house is hidden from the one at the far end by the chimney breast.
I'm not sure that we have a secret - but we're lucky to have a row of various mature trees including two oak trees along one side of the garden, a thick hedge on the other side and a taller thick hedge at the front, so lots of cover for the birds. We have quite a few hanging feeders and mealworms are put out every day in two caged feeders. Finally our garden is not particularly tidy - we loved the comment about gardens on SpringWatch some years ago - "Say YES to mess" |

| | | Re: Mayford nest boxes Fledging from Box 2
Soon after 7am today, some of the chicks in Box 2 decided it was time to go - eventually leaving just three of their siblings huddled together in a corner. The remaining chicks always seem very subdued for a while after one has left.
The eggs hatched over three days, so maybe these are the younger ones. Eventually chick number 9 made up its mind...............
....................leaving one lonely little chick.
However, he eventually decided to look out at the big wide world - and decided to be brave. Unfortunately the photo caught by the outside camera as it left showed only part of its tail
.
Boxes 1 and 3 are two or three days later than this box - so "empty nest syndrome" won't set in just yet. | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
