| | | 5 blue tit chicks fallen from nest Hi everyone. New member signed up for some info.
Round my mums today she had noticed 4 very young chicks on the ground that had obviously fallen from the nest. (well 5 but 1 was dead)
In my experience blue tits are awful at building nests. After searching about above where the chicks were i found it. This one was tiny and half disintegrated so no wonder they fell out.
I carefully pulled the nest out with the intention of putting the chicks back in and replacing it from where it came but it was tiny and they would of fallen out again as they are filling it up!
Ive placed whats left of the nest into a shallow biscuit tin and padded it out with moss and twigs and stuff and put the chicks in it, and put the tin in the tree as near as could to where it was originaly.
Have i done the right thing? Theres not much else i could do. These poor little things arent even feathered yet. I should of got some pics but didnt think.
Thanks. |

Look to see if the parent birds come back from a safe distance away if they dont then you may have to contact a rescue centre near you..

| | | Re: 5 blue tit chicks fallen from nest You have probably given these chicks the best possible chance, and the parent bird might return to your 'new' nest. It doesn't sound like Blue Tits though, Blue Tits are a hole nesting species that build their nest in a cavity in a tree (or similar). A small cup shaped nest is more likely to be something like a finch.
Unfortunately it is not uncommon to see this sort of thing at this time of year, and sometimes you just have to accept that there is quite a lot of natural mortality among nestlings and young birds. If the young die in a case like this, but the parents survive to breed again the parents may learn from the experience and construct a better nest next time. |

| | | Re: 5 blue tit chicks fallen from nest it was pretty hard to tell what they are, they have no body feathers, some small blueish wing feathers and fluff! probably only a few days old i would of thought.
Ill get my mum to keep her eye on the bush to see if the parents are about, i did watch for 10 mins or so but had to come away to get internet to ask! |

Hopefully you will see the parents return - at least you know that you've tried. |
