| | | Pop goes the weasel Hi can anyone tell me the name of the bird that whistles something that sounds like "pop goes the weasel"? I have lived here for 12 years and have never heard this bird before. I live in South Wales UK and near woodland and open grass fields. I hear this bird mostly in the evenings but have never seen it so I don't know what it looks like but it has a definite sound. Any help greatly appreciated as it's driving me mad not knowing. Thank you! |

| | | Re: Pop goes the weasel Yes, I would say that is a fair description of the general sound of a blackbird song.
Cheers. Nik.

| | | Re: Pop goes the weasel could be a starling, they are great mimics, if it nested near a place where someone whistled that it'd have picked it up?
or a blackbird as others have said,
could be one that's been hand reared and released, the ones i reared last year are out in the wild and maintaining territories now, and i know them from the songs they sing, one does a bit from the colenel bogey march, another a bit from some classical piece i'd got stuck in my head etc.
they all have their own song added to it that they picked up as they matured in the wild, but they still remember the little tune i whistled to them, and will respond if i whistle it... but it seems only me whisteling it gets it repeated, others whisteling it gets another bit of their wild song. |

I have a bird in the garden that has in its song this "pop goes the weasel" type tune. It has always made me smile when i hear it, its sounds out of tune to the rest of its song. It was not untill i heared it sing this morning that i realised about this post.
